Hey, it's Kip!

When you’re on vacation, there are always those stand-out crew members, guides, or resort staff who go the extra mile to make sure you’re having the best time possible. They’re the ones who turn a “nice getaway” into an unforgettable memory — and for so many of them, it’s not just a job, it’s their passion! I’ve got a super simple way to show your appreciation that’s easy to pack and guaranteed to make someone’s day.
One thing I always pack (right alongside my flip-flops and sunscreen) is a stack of Thank You cards. Whenever I have an exceptional interaction — whether it’s with an activities crew member on a cruise, a tour guide who brings history to life, or a housekeeper who leaves little surprises in the room — I make sure to leave them a personalized note.
Depending on their role and where you’re staying, adding a tip inside the card can be appropriate and appreciated — but not always expected. (Pro tip: check the resort or cruise tipping guidelines ahead of time so you know what’s customary.)
I usually give the card on the second-to-last day of the trip. That way, there’s time to hand it to them personally, and I’m not scrambling on the final day when goodbyes are rushed — especially on cruises, where you might not see your favorite dining or entertainment staff during turnaround day.
It’s such a small gesture, but it can make a big difference. Letting someone know they made your day absolutely makes their day — and I like to think it’s a bit of “vacation karma.” When their work feels rewarding, they’re more likely to go above and beyond for the next guests… which just might be me!
So do me a favor — pack a few Thank You cards, and help keep those amazing crew members and resort staff smiling for all of us.
